NEST, Easy Breather Pillow

One of the trickier pieces of criteria for my bedroom choices, I like to make sure that I’m sourcing bedding from a company that values sustainability as much as I do. Nest Bedding is one such company. Certified organic in all of their materials and FairTrade Certified, I feel good about buying from them when I find a deal or a product I love. Plus, while a Canadian brand would be preferable, Nest products are made in the USA, so the impact of shipping is less drastic than when I purchase from a company overseas. And if that wasn’t enough, Nest also employs third-party testing to ensure their products remain sustainable and free of harmful chemicals. What more can I say?  Well, what I can say, they make a really good product called the Easy Breather Pillow.

The Easy Breather Pillow is Nest’s fully adjustable memory foam pillow. Filled with shredded memory foam, the pillow arrives overstuffed and the user is encouraged to remove handfuls of foam to customize the pillow to their body’s needs. There are guidelines on Nest’s website for different sleepers, and how to begin using their pillow.

While the adjust-ability of the Easy Breather Pillow is its main selling point, the design also includes a removable cover for easy cleaning, and cooling technology for “that cool, ‘other side of the pillow’ feeling 24/7”. I don’t know about you, but I always get the best sleep with a chilly pillow!

Phew! That was a lot of info for you. If you just skimmed the last three paragraphs, no worries! Here are the main talking points of the Easy Breather Pillow:

  • Fully adjustable
  • Filled with shredded memory foam
  • Removable, washable cover
  • Cooling technology
  • Totally organic

But how do you even decide if a pillow is the right one for you? Here’s a very brief guide to what you should look for in a pillow based on your go-to sleep position:

  • Side sleepers:
    • Firm support: Side sleepers need a firm pillow to keep their head and neck aligned during the night.
    • High loft: Loft refers to the height of the pillow. A higher pillow will keep your head in its natural alignment!
  • Back sleepers:
    • Medium support: If you’re a back sleeper, you don’t necessarily need a firm pillow, but a medium firmness will keep your pillow from deflating over the night.
    • Medium loft: Sleeping on your back requires some middle-ground — too high, and you’re craning your neck! But too low, and you’re basically lying flat on your mattress.
  • Stomach sleepers:
    • Soft support: A soft pillow will give you the cushion you want without lifting your head too much.
    • Low loft: Sleeping on your stomach with anything higher than a low loft will lift your head too much — and that won’t feel good in the morning!

Beyond the basics, there are some qualities you may look for in a pillow that make your sleep extra-awesome!

  • Cooling
  • Breathable
  • Natural/organic
  • Sustainable
  • Memory foam

Nest’s Easy Breather Pillow is a good choice if you value sustainability, and want the freedom to adjust your pillow to your style of sleeping.

Cover

The Nest Bedding Easy Breather memory foam pillow has a breathable cover made from blended adaptive cooling fabric, polyester, and spandex.

The Easy Breather Natural has a slightly different cover. Instead of cooling fabric, it’s made with organic cotton. Both pillows promote airflow, so they should help sleepers stay cool throughout the night.

Core

Beneath the covers, you’ll find interior linings to hold the filling in place. But what’s inside the lining differs with each pillow.

The Easy Breather classic model contains pieces of shredded memory foam. However, unlike many foam pillows on the market, this one doesn’t emit any harsh chemical odors. That’s because this virgin foam is CertiPUR-US-certified.

Instead of memory foam, the Easy Breather Natural contains OEKO-TEX® shredded latex foam and smooth polyester fibers. This gives the pillow a more responsive feel, and it’s makes the product especially eco-friendly.

How Firm Are the Nest Bedding Easy Breather Pillows?

The Easy Breather memory foam pillow has a classic medium firmness level. When you rest your head on it, you’ll gently sink into its soft filling.

I personally have been using this pillow now for about 6 months and really enjoy it. To be honest it took me a few nights to get used to an adjustable memory foam pillow as I’ve always slept on the standard 2 pack Costco pillows. I love that you can adjust the filling to make it just right for you. Everynight I take a second to fluff it up and mold it to my sleeping style. I have been trying hard to sleep mostly on my back so I find it works very well and when I do go to my side it also nicely contours my neck and creates support. I would recommend this to anyone to try since it can suite so many styles of sleeping and body shapes. I also love what the company is about: green and eco friendly! The pillow came to my door vacuumed sealed and in a way smaller box than I thought it could ever fit in.
